Acadia National Park – The Ocean Path Trail

Acadia National Park – The Ocean Path Trail

Amazing Scenery

What a place to visit with its amazing beauty and diversity.  I had been dreaming for a while to visit this National Park in Maine and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. I took a few weeks to prepare my visit and the website, was a great help offering a  virtual visit of the key locations such as the Ocean Path Trail of this amazing National Park.

It gave me a chance to find the place that I wanted to visit and shoot. This site describes  valuable information of the key areas to visit and GPS coordinates of these locations. You can also find other GPS coordinates of the park on this page and then program them in your own GPS. You will save time if you spend a bit of time planning and preparation your visit.

Here are a couple of shots that I made at sunrise when most people are still sleeping. These shots were taken near the Ocean Path near the Sand Beach Parking area (GPS: Latitude 44.330198; Longitude -68.183998)  I would scout one scene during the daytime and shoot it the next morning. All I hoped was that nature would cooperate and offer perfect conditions for shooting great images the next morning.

In preparing my trip I loaded a few software on my iPhone that I found extremely useful. You will find the links of these apps at the bottom of the post The Photographer’s Ephemeris® (TPE)  is a tool to help you plan outdoor photography in natural light, especially landscape and urban scenes. It is a map-centric sun and moon calculator: see how the light will fall on the land, day or night, for any location on earth. Tide Graph Pro universal app provides over 6000 US tide and water current predictions without the need for an internet connection. Optimum CS-Pro the unique tool for photographers and cinematographers seeking maximum image sharpness. If your camera is not equip with GPS like my 5D Markl II, you can also download GeoLocation Pro this app will obtain your coordinates (latitude, longitude and altitude).

The trail is easy and follows beautiful cliffs. If you have the intention of getting down and closer to the shore make sure you that you wear good hiking footwear as the terrain is dangerous, difficult and extremely slippery.

This is a quote that explains very well why I like to get to a location before sunrise and appreciate what is in front of my eyes. There is nothing like the light at sunrise

” I’m a very early riser, and I don’t like to miss that beautiful early morning light.”

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

What I see is often different than what is in front of me

When I see something that catch my attention, I usually take the time to look at it and try to see what really draws me to this scene or subject. Sometime it’s the beauty of the scene or the color or texture of the subject. Often I see something totally different than what is in front of me.  I try to see what it can become. This is why I like this quote from Salma Hayek

‘’ People often say that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’ and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.

Weekly Picture Story- The Early Morning Frost

Early Morning Frost Walk

Last saturday, I got up early to go shoot some morning frost that I had saw on my way to work during the week. In a field not far from where I live their is some tall dried grass and they have been covered by frost for the past week. I decided to try to make a nice image of this grass. Unfortunately the early morning frost was not that great but I made the best of what was there. The first thing that caught my attention was a plant with beautiful leaves covered with early morning frost.

Early Morning Frosty Leaves

Then I saw these blades of grass that were laying on the ground. I like the way they were laying on the ground and I captured them with my Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro lens that I really like. With a bit of post-processing they came out looking good despite the busy background.

Chasing Early Morning Frost

I finished my walk in a park not far from my home and by the time I got there the frost was almost gone but some leaves grab my attention and I shot them as the laid on the ground. I like the textures and colors of nature and these leaves looked like they were quietly sleeping on the ground waiting for winter, I could not resist and I decided to immortalize them. I hope that you have enjoyed my early morning frost walk pictures.

Weekly Picture Story – Peaceful Cemeteries

Beautiful Cemeteries

Cemeteries have always fascinated me, they can be spooky and at the same time peaceful but for me, they are a place of serenity where we connect with are lost love ones. The story of this picture is about the beauty of certain cemeteries that we can find in small towns, villages and communities. During a trip in Newfoundland my daughter and I took some small dirt road that follow the coast. Never did we have in mind to chase cemeteries but we came across this very small one that seemed abandoned and not cared for.

Peaceful Cemeteries

When I visit cemeteries, I never feel inconfortable but rather calm and peaceful. They are places where I can connect with my pass heritage and accept that finally some of my loves ones can finally rest in peace. The discovery of this small beautiful cemetery had to be recorded in pictures, I took the time to take a few pictures and admire the beauty of this peaceful place out of nowhere on a dirt road. No matter how far I looked around I coud not see a house, a church or anyone.

Peaceful Newfoundland Cemetery

We often see on tombstone R.I.P. in this cemetery none of these had these inscriptions but I really felt that the peaceful location where this cemetery was situated was all about that. As we continued that dirt road I told myself, this is the kind of cemetery I would like to rest at the end of my life strikly because it look so beautiful, peaceful and calm. I hope you have enjoyed this short story and appreciated the beauty of this peaceful cemetery that we came across in Newfoundland.
